On January 26th, 2012 our daughter Zaynab was diagnosed with Leukemia. Although we were initially shocked, we realized that we were not alone. So many friends and family immediately stepped up and are supporting us in so many different ways. We feel truly blessed. In light of how blessed we are we wanted to accomplish a few things with this blog. One is to keep everyone informed of Zaynab's recovery. A second is to help those who are less fortunate.

As we thought about what charities to support we thought of a few and couldnt decide on one, so we thought we would give people a choice.

1) Something as simple as water for those who are less fortunate. No one in this world should be without water. Nancy helped setup this initiative here: http://bit.ly/xfXbRS and we have a goal of $20,000 which will provide over 1000 people with water.

2) What a wonderful world this would be if we were able to wipe cancers like Leukemia / Lymphoma from the face of the world. Nancy has mobilized a team to participate in the Light the Night walk on October 20th 2012 and we have a goal of $50,000! To donate to LLS and join the effort go here: http://bit.ly/yZwbt7

3) Who better to receive support than orphans. GiveLight has been great organization for supporting orphans worldwide. While we have no goal set, we recognize that it does not take very much money to save a child: http://bit.ly/xKpWv2

Thanks for continuing to keep us in your thoughts and prayers!

Thanks,
Zaynab and Family

Day 8 continued

Alhamdulilah Zaynab's chemo went well. She slept through most of it. She woke up towards the end feeling some pain. Fortunately that didn't last too long and they were able to put her back on the morphine pump. Alhamdulilah...:) Then she had something to eat and is sound asleep now. The Dr talked about getting her pain undercontrol using oral meds so we can go home. Hopefully they figure that out soon. Musaab and I both were taught how to take care of her IV line at home. So not much holding us up here. Zaynab and I spent some time reading comments on the blog. She told me that it made her feel as if people were here beside her. I am so happy to see posts from family and friends all over the world. Special thanks for family posting in Arabic it will give us an opprotunity to practice. My love and salaam to all

  2. So, it doesn't sound like she is going home tomorrow? Better to keep her in the hospital until things are really under control so that when she does go home, she can stay there! Give her a gentle hug for me! I continue to visualize her at home!

    Lots of love

    1. I totally agree with you. I kind of disappointed Zaynab by requesting that they keep her at the hospital an extra day. I had the nurse disconnect her IV fluids. Now Zaynab is free to move around without dragging Fred(the pole with wheels that holds all the fluids and medicine bags).
It's been almost one day since Zaynab started taking only oral pain medication. I figured it's better to try what we will be doing at home at the hospital and making sure that it works.

    3. Eyman & Zaynab, I'm glad to hear the chemo went well and that you are disconnected from Fred! That is definitely some progress. I'm praying that the nausea and pain get under control today with the oral meds. InshAllah may these meds be just as effective so that you all can go home comfortably soon. Thank you so much for posting the updates as well! InshAllah we'll continue to pray for Zaynab's speedy recovery and may the return home be easy and comfortable for you all. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you this week. Lots of love and duas.
